We are reaching out once again to invite qualified men to compete in the Elite Mens' field in the St. Vrain Track Invite Mile. The track at Longmont HS, in Longmont, CO is an encapsulated polyurethane surface and is just over 5000' in elevation. The track record for the mile was set in 2013 by Rory Fraser when he ran 4:03.99 breaking Ted Castaneda's state record of 4:04.86 set in 1976.

) Tabor Stevens broke Rory's record two years later in La Junta when he ran 4:01.27 with some of his teammates from Adams State pacing him through the effort. La Junta is just over 4000' in elevation. Our event takes place around 7 pm in the middle of a high school track meet with over 50 teams and 1500 competitors.
Our prize purse has been growing, and thanks to Runners Roost, we now have $8,000 for a Colorado soil record (current record is 4:01.27 by Tabor Stevens), and thanks to a generous donor, we have an additional $11,000 available for a sub-4 effort. In speaking with several elite runners earlier this spring, we agreed that we need to have a pacer, and that person needs to be able to go through 1K between 2:27 and 2:29. If they meet their obligation, and someone breaks 4, then they will receive $1000 (instead of the $200 we'll pay them if sub-4 isn't broken). We also agreed that we would pay $1000 up to an additional 3 competitors if they also break 4 minutes. If 4 men break 4 minutes, then the winner gets an $8000 bonus to go with the $8000 for the new record. If 3 men break 4 minutes, then the winner would get a $9000 bonus, etc. So the bonus could be $11,000 if the winner is the only one to break 4 minutes.
In the event that no one breaks either record, and we have at least 8 men in the field, we will pay $400 to 1st place, $300 to 2nd place, $200 to 3rd place, and $100 to 4th place. If we have less than 8 competitors, then we will pay top 3 only.
