Stop firing John Hayes every time he gets successful.

Ummm....ever heard of Patrick Sang?
Bring in a new young coach. You need this coach to develop into one of the premier coaches in the country. As he gets better and better results, he must also develop strong recruiting skills and land progressively better recruits. Eventually, you need to be able to consistently land guys who are top talents nationally. Maybe develop some foreign connections. After this process has been going on for at least a decade or so, you just might have a shot at an NCAA XC title.
You can see why this process is pretty unlikely, and that’s why it’s so rare for new powerhouses to emerge. Syracuse with Chris Fox is the most recent example, and it took a full decade to happen.
Not firing Hayes would have been a great start. Same with Sisson on the women's side.
Look at the XC Champions over the past few years. NAU, Oklahoma State, Colorado, Oregon, Syracuse.
With the exception of Oregon, all of those schools are primarily distance running programs. Texas is a track and field dominant program. Being competitive at the Big 12 Championships and getting to Nationals on a yearly basis is enough to keep the track coach happy...and let's be honest, they probably don't really care.
I don't see it ever happening, but you just never know.
I would recruit Ethiopians, Kenyans, Mexicans, and Japanese since Texas is a famous TOP 10 Olympic Medal school.
Sooo they were a couple years away from becoming a powerhouse with Vig?
Herbster is doing a fine job on the track and seems to be recruiting very well. Is it a matter of time or more money for the distance guys?

Wait, you can't be serious about his success. Since Hayes left how many have qualified for regionals in track? Let along nationals. His teams run themselves into the ground and he encourages it. He also has the IQ of a banana peel. More time wouldn't do anything but bring more injuries and mediocre performances. And more money would only take away from a spring and jumps program that needs work anyways. If you could bring in the best runners in the state year in and year out, you don't need a ton of money.
Hayes knew what he was doing for sure, Wake will surpass UT in a few years in distance for sure. Herbie is getting fired after this track season when they clean house so it doesn't matter much. Time to get a young gun who can develop or a classic old timer who wants to live in Austin.

#Randolph!!
If he is interested, hire Lionel Manzano.
His experience and success as a U of T, and international caliber athlete, coupled with the coaching and different world class coaching method exposure he has had = recipe for success.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
