Fine Young Cannibals 'She drives me crazy'
Great Southern Land
Send Me an Angel
Split Enz, 'I got you,' or 'My Mistake' or 'I see red' or Poor Boy
There are others but again that song us actually quite solid.

What about Phil Collins?
No romantics out there? Chris de Burgh, Lady in Red,
What about Grandmaster Flash or the Sugar Hill gang? Or Mc Hammer?
The 80's were great for films too. Dance Hall Days was great. Any 80's film which had that song is great by default. Scarface and it's songs is another example. Other good songs are Burning Down the House and Once in a Lifetime. Genesis were great. The list goes on. There is so much crap now.

All of 'Starfish' is amazing; still holds up today.
This is my favorite; still play it on road trips all the time:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqHVJBSXeZ0Rick (no roll) wrote and performed easily the most popular song of the 80's. It will never be outdone. 414 million views on just his official channel, surely countless more on now-deleted other channels.

It was a pretty big hit then, too. I recall it lasted a long time on the R&B stations, along with the nearly identical "Together Forever."
And you have been completely gaslighted if you forgot what superstars Deaf Leopard were. MTV made them gods and spun hits from their Hysteria album for two full years. Another album where all the songs were the same.
I personally think they both sucked, but this thread is obviously about who was popular, not who was good, since everyone is posting just popular stuff.

They have been so forgotten that no one knows how to spell their name any more.
'80s, not 80's.

I believe this is the winner.
Come Dancing by the Kinks-
Falco - who originally wrote "Der Kommisar" did more cocaine than any other human, ever. They would literally pick up this guy up by his legs and drag him with his nose on floor, lawnmower style, and he would snort cocaine off linoleum.
Legend.
