Take a look at these Q&A's
Johnny Gray's response to the drug question kind of sounds as though Gray is saying there were a bunch of athletes (mostly Kenyans) running faster than him in his prime and were "offering him" drugs so he can run fast too, but according to this site (
http://www.alltime-athletics.com/m_800ok.htm), there's only 1 Kenyan athlete with a better time than Gray's in the 1980s. Gray's prime was probably in mid 1980s as he set the AR in 1985 "(Editor’s note: Gray was the fourth man in history to break 1:43)" One would expect that the "athletes offering" him drugs were some of the athletes with faster times than Gray's and they would share their "secret" with Gray so he can get to their level or "1:40" runner, but there was only 1 Kenyan athlete who ran faster than Gray in all 1980s. Was this 1 athlete or his coach caught for cheating? And banned for life?
No other Kenyan really ran near Gray's times until after Gray's prime (mid 1990s).
- THINK ABOUT IT: Only 1 Kenyan athlete runs faster than Gray's PR in all 1980s and this particular Kenyan athlete ONLY broke 1:43 ONCE, but Gray ran sub 1:43 FOUR times, and yet Gray is considered the "clean" guy in that era, at least more cleaner than Kenyans???
