I’m a senior in high school and I made a realization today that I’m actually not good at anything. Any success I’ve ever had has been from doing more work or putting in more effort than others. I truly have no talent. This goes for running, grades, really anything I’ve ever done. I’m a little sad that I’m genuinely not good at anything. If I don’t put in 110% effort, I’m just average. I have to work so hard to be the best and stay there. Is anyone else like this?
You're only in high school so it's far from too late to tell you this. But when I see this realization in adults it's hilariously tragic. My take on "talent" is that it's mostly BS.
Talent is nothing but somebody working either 110%, or more efficiently at 90%, with the key of hiding how much they work. Talented people just hide their work. That's it. Making the rest of us feel inadequate.
If you dig into the background of every scam artist who claims they have talent, you will always see a multitude of hard work. Ok, scam artist might be too harsh a language because it's usually others who typecast them with the talent label.
But the freak kid in jr high who runs a mile 30 seconds faster than anyone else, is he more talented? Nope. He's probably just been running since he was 3 years old, and maybe his closest rival has been running since they were 9. This is just one example but hopefully you get the point.
Talent is nothing but a head start in hiding. That's it.
