Oh, and did you just compare yourself to Nick Symmonds???
He's a multiple national champion and you have literally never run a race.

Thank you, KatRuns. Your post was the nicest one I've read. Actually, it might be the only nice one.
I'm done showing off my calves but I wonder, why are you guys irritated when I talk about split shorts all the time? It's our tradition to wear it? And yes, I say "our" because I am a runner, not a hobby jogger. Oh yeah, I didn't do T&F in high school. I didn't have that support system. And I'm sure not going to get it here on LetsRun. Everyone likes putting people down, but I hate people who do that. So I'll put you down because you guys get off from that.
I wanted to do forensic accounting because I hate how people get scammed and the lives that get ruined from it. So I was an accounting major but I quickly switched. I'll decide to put my distaste towards the vast majority of negative, condescending runners here.
And about peaking. Yes, I want to peak for a coach. I am very prideful, and I take pride in the school I'm in. What motivated me to take running seriously is because our NCAA1 athletes never win. I just hate that spirit. I see them running and being shirtless in their split shorts running with their teammates, but I can sense that yes, even if they are D1 standards, they don't come in first place. It's a quiet complacency and I want to add my strength to that team and REPRESENT.
A few of them know who I am but they probably know that I'm the slow guy. They've only ever seen me run on achilles tendinitis and ITB injuries. Or you know, I binge eat boneless chicken wings and then do that 5k the next day. I'm not on the team yet so I'm not super OCD about what I do.
I've decided that if any guy in his 20s or early 30s tries to outrun me, I will take that challenge because what matters is that you OUTKICK them. I'm not staying by them for a mile or two - that intimacy is too weird. But for a quarter to half to probably almost a mile, I will out pace them. And of course, middle distance is my specialty.
If you challenge what I'm saying right now, I just want to say that I do want to join my schools track team. My training methods are unconventional but I haven't felt as determined or alive pursuing running compared to even my studies.
I'm done with you guys obsessing OVER ME. It's summer season and time for base mileage.
Hush now.
He's my role model.
I'm not going to compare myself to critical, hateful people on LR, even if they do have exceptional PRs as well.
Do you even watch his Vlogs? Do you even go to shoe specialty stores asking if they have Run Gum? Do you even own Brooks shoes?
I do. And the Ravenna 7 is my favorite. But the Neuro is fun for hills and cracky sidewalks.
Also I'm a pre-med major. Ooh. Isn't Nick Symmonds a biochemist? Similar prerequisites. Hmm.
Keep making your negative comments about the future because it sounds like you can observe and predict what's gonna happen in the future.
Oh yeah, and I am comparing myself to Nick Symmonds. He's losing weight to get fast, and I am losing weight to get fast.
Unless you think losing weight doesn't = faster results.
I was talking about him peaking and how he needed to lose weight for his last race. Doesn't that make sense? Generally? Just because he's an olympian doesn't mean biology and exercise science excludes him. I'm inspired by his dedication. He also said he was built for the 800. I know I'm built for middle distance. You can't make me question my own body type.
And now I know.
You're passive aggressive.
You keep trying to undermine my confidence and make me judge my ability when I know full well what effort I've put into it. Also, I know the things I've said and wrote. You can't make me question my memory and training and the confidence I've received from running a marathon to completion on an ITB injury.
Run a marathon with an ITB injury and tell me your time.
You totally reminds me of a passive aggressive person.
You're a Nasty man.
There is a lot of homoerotic innuendo in this thread tbh
If you run on the roads, you have to be aware of incoming cars and bicyclists and other runners.
The brief, tender moments I do share with other runners - I choose to remember them fondly.
But I can also run on Pure Hate. It's fun to be a competitive runner, but you'll get burnt out if you make everything a competition. You got to enjoy those race stories that unexpectedly happen to you.
Most of my race stories are with other men though. Eww...
At least they're athletic and wear split shorts.
This thread has reached legend status already, I think.
We have a short stocky guy who has never run a track race in his life PROMISING a sub 1:50 800 within 2 months. Nevermind this would make him the most talented runner ever in history to go from never having raced to a 1:4X.
The next 2 months are going to be interesting!
There's a reason why I'm aiming sub 1:50 and not 1:46 or 1:47.
That's elite standards time. I'm just aiming for college standards time. If 18 year olds can achieve that, then I think I can achieve that too since I'm still a young adult.
Also, Nick Symmonds has short stocky legs too. Oooh. Look at that similarity!

It's ok that you want to bang him. Honest.
And you're right, a sub 1:4X is legendary considering I've never raced the 800 before.
But races are the accumulation of training and development. Like I said, I need the negative comments to push me forward otherwise, I won't have a drive to achieve a 1:50. Also I do believe in that competition is the drive that pushes us to further. How can anyone run a 1:44 in training ALONE just like Makhloufi?
My role models are the best of athletes.
Mine will be sub 1:50 in a race with high stakes against myself and to compete for a team. And remember, that's only after I've been running to train for a MARATHON until just about 2 months ago when I dipped to 50-60 miles a week now because I'm done training long-distance.
It's like just getting any random guy who's never really struggled in life and asking him to run a sub 1:50. I'm not that guy.
Keep baiting me, but I've already internalized your negativity into speed work. Maybe I'll put it towards developing core work or single-leg squats.
When I post my FAT times, my name won't be hiding for long.
:)
Nick Symmonds is really attractive. I was rewatching the 800M race with Rudisha and I didn't see Symmonds there until I watched the whole segment and when his face appeared in one of the lanes I actually smiled/blush.
"OMG there he is!" Rudisha always takes all the attention for himself - even mine.
I'm not going to fan girl over some D1 fvckboy. No.
My man crush is Nick Symmonds because he is a bison with the athletic build that I find desirable.
This thread is epic!! keep up the good work!
If you can run a 1:27 half marathon, a 1:50 half mile, with your body structure and your mileage, is going to be a piece of cake.
Tell us more about your training, since you want to peak in a couple of month I assume you are now doing more aerobic work, like 5x1 mile in 4:50, or have you already started the faster stuff like 8x400 in 58?
How do you have this much time to blather on every day?
The half marathon of 1:27 stands. I typed out a long response but I just can't keep typing like this. So I deleted it.
Anyways, I do them all:
Long runs, easy runs. Fartleks, Interval, and Tempo also go in the easy runs but not all three at the same time.
Mileage now is 50 a week. I allocate what kind of runs my body is going to do, but generally it's aerobic base that I prioritize. I do 10-12 or 13 mile long runs in 80 degree weather on purpose.
My best guess now is that my 200m speed is 27 seconds. And my mile time should perhaps be around 5:xx. Definitely not 6:00.
Oh, and I do 500 bodyweight squats average a day. And I've been doing that consistently since December. I do more strength training, but I like squats.
I am done talking about myself! Woo. I will come back to this later in September. I will lose the weight and tell you my times again.
I don't. Which is why I'm done obsessing over this thread obsessing over me.
C-c-c-c-ciao!
This is hilarious.
An all out 200 in only 27 and you think 1:50 is doable within 2 months?!?! Hahahah.
You think I did an all out 200? No I didn't.
If you read all my other posts, you'll see me saying I never go all out until the time is right.
I know that sub 54 in the 400 is necessary for a sub 1:50.
Usually for younger athletes you need about 52-54 + a 5 or 7 second differential.
Besides, I will beat you in an all out 400. You saw my legs. I won't show you my glutes because that's my real trump card.
Show this young man some respect. Forget the two months....by indoor winter track he'll have a sub-1:45, and by spring he'll make his University proud when he serves notice to Clayton, Donovan and the rest of the boys when he goes sub-1:44 .......because that's what well-rounded trained athletes do! Save the cargo shorts for the recovery runs, but please tone it down on the "Split" shorts (especially if you're utilizing public transportation). By the way, that compression shirt's got to go! Earn your respect, don't allow anyone to pass you.... Race 'em all! Run them into the ground! (And don't lose sight of that 1:50, even after you run 2:26). Most important, when it's time to kick, haul ass! (Not a drop kick or crescent kick, a la martial arts). Just think, you'll go from Name in Hiding to Mr. Prominent Name. Good luck, kid!
I'm not pre med for nothing.

Just like the one where the guy was counting trees in some weird, random order.
Keep up the good work!
Totally agree. But the trees thread was the last time I laughed uncontrollably on here, it'll be hard to match.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
