I am always surprised by how few runners actually follow the elite side of running. At the races I go to, very few people would know who Galen Rupp is, and even fewer would know the names of any of the African's who dominate our sport. Sure everyone on Let's Run knows who Kenenisa Bekele and Haile Gebrselassie are, but our sport is just not like baseball or football, maybe 1% of runners know who they are. At the next race you go to, just ask around to see if anyone knows the name of the world record holder in the 5000, 10000, or marathon. Even where I live in the metro Detroit area, non-runners don't know who Desi Linden is, and few runners would recognize her if she showed up at a local race.
I guess my point is, the Salazar/Rupp/Ritz controversy is a non-issue for most runners. I think he used a lot of questionable methods on his athletes, some of it probably unethical, but I think if there was enough of a case against them something would have already been done. This is an old report. And most people just don't care...
