I'm a new runner. Rather than doing Couch to 5k, I did Saddle to 5k as I switched over from cycling. Last Saturday I ran a 5k and did it in 26:21. The Jack Daniel's VDOT calculator says that is equivalent to a half-marathon at 9:15 pace. I've never run that far, but now I want to see if I can do it at that time. My friend has a gym in his apartment complex with some treadmills in it and I'm thinking of just hopping on this Saturday and doing it at the predicted pace. Everyone hates the treadmill, but it is a taskmaster that keeps you on pace and it permits me to have water on hand without having to carry it.
The furthest I've ever run at once is 6.5 miles and I did it this Monday morning when I woke up extra early with insomnia and decided to use the time to extend my run and check out nearby dog park. I did it at 11:00 minute/mile pace easy run pace.
Should I go for broke and try to run the half on a whim, or am I asking for a trip to Snap City?
