He ran 28:42 last week and now backs it up with a 13:39 for 5000m. He won by 14 seconds and lapped about half the field in the process.

Middle Tennessee State's web site lists school records of 3:42.90 (from 1977!!!), 14:02 and 28:55. All these records have been broken this year (the 5000m by a huge margin). As we know, Laari was a medalist at the mile this year and Rutto (not Laari) has broken the 1500m record this year. Furthermore, Cheruiyot also went below the old 1500m record this year.
So it's not only one or two fast guys on the team this year, but a whole bunch.
Why did they decide to turn around this program all of a sudden? What was the catalyst at Middle Tennessee State?
Freshman? He's a 25-year-old Kenyan.

Theft really, when compared to normal aged college runners.
Age cheating is as bad as doping or as good as doping for results.
Middle Tenn is a joke.
I don't fault this athlete one bit. I do fault the coach, and the school, and
The NCAA in not having age limits. The are propagating the theft of results from legitimately aged competitors ie those freshman that are 18 or 19.

Ok, calm down. Mid Tenn State does not have the monopoly over foreign runners. So let's not make the thread about that.
What happened at Mid Tenn State (in the past few years) which led them to recruit top level runners?
They went from a very average program to a top program in a few years. New coach? New AD?..,
Yep. New coach. Dean Hayes got the job about the time your Grand Daddy was born. He's turned it around quicklike.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
