I was a decent runner, ran low 16's in the 5k, when I competed in the 80's and early 90's. I ran in a t-shirt and a pair of cotton sweatpants or soccer shorts and Adidas Country's, Nike shoes or whatever was available at the time. I generally ran by myself or with one friend. Now, every hacker on the road has headbands with lights, reflective gear, expensive outfits, fanny packs, etc., and folks run in big support groups to improve self-esteem. Screw all of that stuff, just go out and run and don't make such a big production out of it.
