I sufferred a light left tibial stress fracture after indoor of my freshman year. Just as I felt my fitness was coming around. I did lots of swimming and biking for ~8wks while I was off. I then slowly came back. The stress fracture has healed well but now I am sufferring from pain under both knees, mainly my right, uninjured leg, after only 2/3wks of easy building back up to pre injury mileage.
I think this was caused from biking too much. I feel like my hips, glutes and hamd are too weak and the biking made my quads unproportionately stronger. I may be wrong, but I've always had weakish, wide hips but never had issues before. I have started PT and doing my own strengthening exercises and stretches.
Currently I am doing the MYRTL routine, with additional hip abductor exercises and stretches once a day for the past couple of days. I also do the dynamic stretching video many ppl have recommended on this forum in previous threads. I can only run 5 mins slow before pain comes on. I took a full 1 1/2wks off before trying to run again. No improvement.
I want to get healthy but I feel i'm wasting away my sophomore year already from all the missed training. My RHR went from ~42-45 to 60. How long before I get back to preinjury condition. XC summer training starts in 6 weeks. I want to be healthy but not totally out of shape by then. I have gained 5-6lbs but I'm still close to underweight BMI of 18.6. Was around 17.8 before injury.
