I'm a former college runner, who has no illusion that I've packed on the pounds since graduating 7 years ago. I was a 30-32 inch waist in college and now rocking the 36.
However, I felt like I was in decent shape, do a one hour boxing class 2-3 times a week and occasionally go for a 3 mile run with little problem.
I caught wind of Colin McCourts challenge (former pro who made a bet with his buddies to lose weight and run a sub 16 5k in one year) and started following him on Instagram. I saw pictures of his starting point and he looked huge. I then noticed that his starting weight (207-8 lbs) was 11 lbs lighter than my current weight of 219 lbs. I didn't think I looked that bad, so I thought he must be shorter...nope we're the same height 5'11". I am fat as hell and delusional about it.
Going to do a challenge like his and try to get down to 165 in the next 6 months. He's eating only 1200 calories a day and training twice a day which is nuts. I don't think I could maintain that. Going to try to stick to 1,800-2,000 calories, but stick with boxing, lift and run more. Probably follow Kris Gethin's 8 week lifting program and then start increasing my mileage for running.
I will check in on this for my progress, but thanks Colin for the wake-up call.
