I ran today for my 10th time(new years resolution) and did a 5k on indoor track. I ran 13:12! I came home and checked the world record was only like 12:37?! Why does it take some of you guys like 15 minutes to do 12 1/2 laps? Wow, I must be a natural talented runner! I saw some meet and kids where running the 2 mile in 4:26. So does human endurance drop off after 2 miles? Cause they did 8 laps in 4:26 but 12 1/2 lap record is 12:37...
This reminds me of a story of my high school days. (True story)
One of my friends who was not out for cross country approached me in the library one day. He says to me that it takes him only 12 minutes to run the three miles to his home every day. I told him I doubted it and searched out a teammate to confirm this. When I asked the teammate he said, "maybe he can."
I also had a new teammate from Japan who when asked how fast he could run 3 miles he said, "oh, about 12 minutes."
I ran with a guy from Africa in college who said he wanted to train with me because he wanted to go out for track and run the 800 meter run. He said he could run it in 2 minutes. I was all intimidated but then when we went out on a 2.5 mile run I beat the guy by about 600 meters without even trying. He was too slow to run with!
"These shoes the best" is my title because the dumbest runner I ever came across said some incredibly stupid and insensitive things to me while I was in my 50s and coming back from a running injury. Admittedly I was jogging rather slowly on a running path. This young guy of about 25 starts shouting at me from a distance, "Hey, you should get these shoes, they have the best cushioning and are very light." "You will run much faster in these shoes."
How many times do you hear someone say they benched 400 pounds when it looks as though they would be lucky to bench their own weight. Some people say they can do 100 pushups, but what is a pushup? They don't even know! I could go on but you see this all the time.
