Mine would have to be "Patch" by C.H. Frick
I do not think that Frick knew a lot about running, but he did know how to make
a race sound exciting and his characters were well-developed.

not a book but movie - St.Ralph
Saw it during winter break of 9th grade, and I started running for the school shortly after. Ended up starting out with a 2:39 800 but by the end of outdoor had a 2:05. Love forever
Thank you for mentioning St. Ralph. Hopefully I'll be able to find it someday.
Once a runner, one of the best books I've read.

Never heard of it. Good?
Not running, but "It's Not About the Bike" has a lot of fiction in it.
Fiction? Marathon Man by Robert Young, I guess.
Once a runner is sooooo good!

Probably not; it's mostly of interest to people who've raced.
There was a collection of running short stories, poems, and novel excerpts that came out in the mid 90s. I don't remember the exact title but it had some pretty cool stories with real drama. There was an excellent short story about a private in WWII running through enemy lines at night to deliver an urgent message.
I know that is a vague post but maybe somebody else will know what I am talking about. Hardback had a stylish white cover.
The Olympian is a better story than Once A Runner in my opinion.
Once a runner

Ten Seconds by Louis Edwards
"Pain" by Dan Middleman is pretty good. Although to be fair, I have not read any other fiction books that I remember. Have read about 25 different training books from Lydiard, Joe Newton, Tony Benson, Jack Daniels, Train Hard Win Easy, etc. Have read about 15 different biographies and other ones (Duel in the Sun, et al) Always wanted to read Once a Runner, but never took my chance.
"Pain" is based on his experiences while in college and several characters are based on real life runners who ran in Gainesville, FL. Middleman is about my age and so many of the characters were based on HS and College standouts that ran during my era.
I have read it three times (yrs apart) and it gets better and I see a little more each time.

I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
