Does anyone have any information on Exterial iliac Artery endofibrosis? About 5 years ago I ran a 10k and right at 2k my left quad got really fatigued. I was running about 5:40 pace so I slowed up to 6 min pace and it got worse as I kept running. I dropped to 6:15 for a couple miles and then pushed back down to 6:00 to finish the race. My quad was very sore for about a week. As my training continued I tried several things. Lifts in my shoe (which only aggravated my hip), Active Release Therapy, time off. Nothing worked. This went on for 2 plus years. So I went to a Vascular surgeon. He concluded that both my iliac arteries were twisted and I wasn't getting enough blood flow. I was able to run ok 5k's and my 10 mile long runs I could drop to low 6 min pace if it was flat. Any hill work made my quad fatigued. Prior to surgery in May 2014 I ran a 17:03 5k. Nothing close to my PR but not half bad considering my quad always crapped out at 2k. I would finish every race limping as my quad just couldn't perform with the rest of me. I had surgery June 3rd 2014. A Vein patch was not an option so the Dr put in tephlon tubing. After a recovery period I started training again. But my symptoms are worse! I can't run even 6:40 pace without fatigue. A stiff wind is like running up a long hill and my legs fatigues running 7:30 pace. The doctors have done test and claim I am getting blood flow but I don't think they are testing me as an athlete who needs a higher amount of blood to my legs when I am running. There is more to the story but this got really long. I am crushed by not being able to run fast or race even close to where I was or would like to be. I was a 2:27.15 marathoner at Chicago in 2002. Never did I think I wouldn't even be able to run under 19:00 for a 5k. Not yet at least. I'm 43 now and live in Tucson, AZ. I can't seemed to find a Doctor who knows anything about this. It is rare for runners to have this as it is usually bicyclists who do. I'm not sure I even needed the surgery now that my symptoms are worse.
