Backstory: In Eighth Grade, I started off the year with a 7:4X Mile. I came out out of middle school crosscountry running 6:4X, and I after that I started to like running. I ran low mileage year round until Spring (15-18mpw), and got my mile down to 6:0X and my 800m to 2:4X. During the Summer, I got a training plan from the high school coach that slowly led me up to 35mpw, and I stayed there until the season started.
After the season starts, the coach sees that my shoes have no arch support and makes me get support shoes. I felt like there were weights on my foot, and after two weeks, I got patellar tendinitis in both of my knees. (R.I.P 1st Month of the Season) The coaches still convinced me to keep on the stability shoes, but I eventually realized that keeping them on after getting injured in both knees is stupidity. Fast-forward to now, and I still haven't shown any significant improvement. There is only one race left in the season, and I haven't even broken 20 Minutes yet. There are a lot of slower kids that became faster than me, and they don't show me nearly the same respect I showed them when I was faster. I'm pissed, and this isn't where I expected to be when summer started.
I've also found out that getting high grades and running hard is completely possible. I feel invincible with my racing flats back on, so I'm willing to start running more. After the season ends, there are 20 weeks before track starts. I'm going to take a break for one week, then I'm going to start running again.
In those 19 Weeks remaining, I want to get up to 60mpw.
Why: I'm not lean or light enough to be a runner, but I have leaned down quite a bit just from running 30mpw. I'm convinced that if I run more miles, I'll start looking more like a runner, and I'll start hitting the times of one too. I also decided once to go out for 10 miles, and after doing that, I really can imagine doing that distance for 6 days a week in the near future. Most importantly, by the end of high school, I want to be fast. REALLY fast.
It may be stupid, but to me, it's worth a shot.
Does anyone have a plan I can use?
