What I meant was relatively speaking...they guy was gifted across the board...he obviously was somewhat better naturally at certain events within his wide range from 800m to 5000m than others.
I agree with you on some points and disagree on others, but I don't feel like getting into a multi-page argument about every last detail.

He is CLEARLY the winner of this thread.
Yiannis Kouros owns the WR in 100miles, 1000km, 1000miles, 12h, 24h, and 48h. That would make his range 900miles.
No, because he was not RUNNING the whole 1000 miles. He was jogging and walking parts of it.

This thread should be limited to Olympic events.

Choge's 2006 Commonwealth games gold was epic, but his lack of outdoor world and Olympic medals counts against him.
Medals has nothing to do with range. You can win a 1500 gold with a 3:50.
Choge is probably the man who can run sub-60 pace the farthest. He will run the first sub 2:02 marathon. He ain't even 30 yet and already 800+ GOAT.

Choge or Kipchoge? They are different people.

His best performances over longer distance were actually over xc
He won the inter counties over 7 miles and was 4th in the National over 9 miles. As an example of the standard Ian Stewart was 2nd. In 1975 Ian won gold at world xc. He was still pb'ing the year earlier and ran 45xx over 10m road in 78
That xc is not over some golf course like America plus at that time you really had to be a good runner to get top 5 in the nationsl.
He also won the English National junior U20
21.7 for 200m aged 20
Good point, well made! I'd forgotten his XC exploits. Those were incredibly tough, sapping courses as well against top endurance guys. There aren't many 800m-1500m specialists who could hang (and beat) tough with a load of 45-48 min 10 milers. That 65 min Half Marathon was a week before his 'perfect' 1500m and was hardly his best effort. I believe the story goes that he was just going to run for 10 miles but he found himself next to the leader and so thought he may as well carry on and win.

Fastest and tremendous range. A stand up individual who fought for runners and humans.
