Always wanting to know more and more about the inner workings of Track and Field, I was curious if people on here knew the way athletes get paid/get paid things for them in the US. I'm friends with some Canadian athletes (not track and field) and they get paid by the government, through a sport sector of the government. They would get a monthly stipend (very little, around $1500) but everything from flights for competition to the athletes contacts were paid for. Does the US work like this and how is the USATF involved, if at all? Or do they get paid by the team they run for (like does OTC pay its athletes?) Then there are sponsors, but do most T&F sponsors just "pay" their athletes with apparel? As you can tell I don't know much/anything about this. All info is welcomed. Thanks.
