Over the past 10 years of coaching XC I have always incorporated double sessions into our training schedule. I input them into our schedule after the second or third week depending on the athletes fitness levels. Morning sessions usually consist of easy mileage (3-5 miles), drills, core work, and sometimes so light pool sessions. And by light pool sessions I mean treading water in the deep end while holding the side, laps, aqua jogging and deep breathing exercises. Not all of these are included in each pool session though. It depends on the mileage for that A.M. session. I will do this 2-3 times per week.
Do any coaches out there input double sessions into their training schedule for the summer? How often weekly? Duration of each A.M. session?
