Was Dean Reinke involved??
How can they hold the marathon when Prince died? Of course they had to cancel.
Dodged a bullet on this one. A few months ago I almost decided to make the Minneapolis Marathon my goal race instead of Grandma's because lodging for Grandma's is so ridiculously expensive.
TeamOrtho has been under fire lately, and as a past runner of several of their races, I can't say the warning signs weren't there. Nice swag, but poorly managed and understaffed expo / packet pickup and dubious course planning (hey, let's map out the course so that leading half marathoners run into a wall of middle-of-the-pack 14K runners at the end of the race).
Dean Reinke was a 4:02 miler at Indiana. I ran in a bunch of road races against him in the 70's and early 80's. After reading the stuff online about the race director issues, all I can say is WOW!
Ortho was negligent and incompetent in this situation. They had been warned that their course was not suitable due to construction and needed to be changed and resubmitted by a certain date, then they acted all shocked when the city would not OK their permit to run over closed roads and bridges.
Every serious runner I know has a story about a poor experience at one of their events. My one and only Ortho race involved multiple distances starting at the same time, going in different directions, with very poor marshaling and directions. Such fun to be racing hard and not know which direction you are supposed to be going as you come up to intersections. My main impression of the day was how much they like to congratulate themselves for being such a great organization. But even Runner's World did an article about how small their actual donations to causes are.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
