My trusty polar watch + acceleramotor finally gave out of 10 years of use, so I am in the market for a new watch. When I last purchased a watch the GPS watches were not all that great, but I assume now they have improved. While don't run competitively anymore, I still run 80-90 miles per week and do a tempo on Saturdays.
Here is a my wish list
- No separate arm device
- Accurate up to the second pace monitoring. This is my highest priority. 10 years ago the affordable GPS watches weren't great at pace monitoring. I am train by pace/distance
- $300 is max budget, under $200 would be nice
- Automatically takes mile splits
I don't need/want anything fancy. I still keep running logs by hand, don't post my runs on facebook, and never used any of the additional features on my polar watch.
If I need to go the acceleramotor route again, I will do it. I'm just assuming in the 10 years since my last watch purchase that the GPS watches have come a long way.
