Congratulations to Galen Rupp on an impressive victory today in his debut marathon at the Olympic Trials. He looked well within himself and ran a smart race in very warm temps. Can't wait to see him compete in Rio at this distance.
As Craig Virgin, Tim Hutchins and others have expressed, however, Galen's plan to run World Indoors in just a matter of weeks, seems way too risky in an Olympic year. Injury, dead legs and genral fatigue are all possible outcomes jeopardizing the big prize - Rio. Is it really worth it just to run Worlds in Portland? Even if you win World indoor 3000m, who's going to remember that compared to the Olympics?
I recommend you celebrate tonight by going down to the local bakery near your LA hotel and buying two cakes - one to have and one to eat.
