15/hr in Podunk, Iowa. 30/hr in Manhattan.
I agree. Now, tell me who the head coaches are the are doing it for free?
3/4th of the coaches in Div I XC and T&F Ncaa are unpaid.
to coach running????????? yeah, that's real important stuff. Health insurance? Those days are over, brother
Volunteer coaches cannot afford to pay testing authorities for good results.
NCAA rules allow a combined program to have six paid coaches. Most volunteers are young, just out of school coaches trying to get their foot in the door in coaching. There aren't many big-time programs with volunteer coaches in charge of an event area.
I wish the NCAA would allow programs to have 2-4 GA or intern coach positions that would allow young coaches to get started and get some compensation outside of gear and per diem.
Many of the top D-I teams have a majority of unpaid coaches. Some even have to pay their own travel expenses.
We need a new NCAA and USATF rule that mandates that at least one Human Resources Officer must be present at every team practice and public competition meet to ensure that each and every person working with the athletes or for the meet in any and every capacity is paid a living wage based on the hours worked. There must be NO persons who are working for free. Our nation is too wealthy, our colleges flushed with Alumni Dollars, our Human Rights expectations too lofty -- to sponge off of free labor.
