I run xc for d3 school. My diet is straight-up fast food and vending machine food. I probably eat 3-4 candy bars a day during season and training. By body fat % is extremely low. So would it even help my times if I started eating better?

Yes very, very likely.
Would you sense some gain in days or even 4-6 weeks? No. Probably not. Longer term, yes.
Very doubtful if you are already skinny.
I think it was Wetmore who said " the better the fuel the hotter the fire," or something close to that. I'm pretty sure he knows a bit about this runnin' stuff.
I'm also low body fat/lightweight and I cut all out processed foods and dropped my times, weight and body fat quite a bit.
Eating processed foods:
4.9% body fat
5'11" 156
After cutting them out:
4.0%
5'11" 143
My tempos have gone from a best of 8 miles at 5:30 to 8 miles at 5:20. I also feel substantially better and don't have that tired feeling I would get after a crappy meal.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
