I have a seven year old son that is an athletic freak...we put him in gymnastics last summer and he got nothing out of it because none of the other kids were advanced enough for the coach to actually commit time to teaching anything difficult for him. He does push ups, pull ups, and etc on his own. I've had to tell him to not lift weights because he'll go into the garage and grab dumbbells and workout. He also has insane amounts of energy. Recently he's been bugging me to take him on my runs and wants me to find a track meet to enter him in. Obviously I'm not going to take him on anything hard or long but I guess on easy days I could do two a days and take him on one that could be a run/walk easy run. Is 7 years old too early to get him started into distance running let alone an actual training regiment? I just remember A LOT of middle school and early high school runners that were top in their class back then butcompleted garbage or never improved by senior year/college and I wonder if it's because they started to young or got burnt out? Any thoughts or ppeople with similar experiences, what did you do?
