c'mon, man. Is this serious? How is this on TV, with competent commentary no less, and I need to watch track on some hacked European website with 1,000 popups and viruses?

Yes, that's my point...
And not just long distance running. Sprints, jumps, decathlon. All more dramatic, compelling, inspiring than this.

Because you watch track on some hacked European website. If track fans weren't so cheap then you would see more track on tv. If not tv, then there are definitely higher quality internetstreams that you can pay for (butr you won't).
Relax. Crossfit gets a few broadcasts on ESPN now and then. But so did competitive aerobics and rollerblading when those fads were big. US track and field events are on major networks. USATF champs got two days of major network coverage. Pre and NY Grand Prix were on major networks as were NCAA finals. World Champs are on major networks and so is NY marathon and the US Olympic marathon trials. Yes, it would be nice to get the Euro meets on TV. But then again, how many sports in Europe get on US networks or cable other than soccer?
And you have to admit that watching all those meat puppets try to run a mile is mildly entertaining for a few minutes.
You realize this is like making fun of decathletes for running a slow 1500? The "team" competition at the CrossFit games is just a sidebar carnival attraction. ..which is saying a lot since the CrossFit Games themselves belong under Barnum n Bailey's big tent.
I bet you could get more TV viewers if after every lap of the 10,000m each runner had to do squat presses to equal 26 rep/laps...1 lap/25 sq.pr, 2nd lap/24 sq pr.
I wish CrossFit would actually focus on multiple domains of fitness. The Games are more strength focused, the boxes are more muscular endurance focused. Run 400m fast, do a barbell exercise, do a bodyweight exercise, repeat for desired effect. That will put you on your azz.
