I've been thinking about this for a while and it's become a question of will I make it on the team as well as do I want to. I'm a senior going to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, a D1 school that has some pretty good runners but not an elite team by any stretch. My PRs are:
400-58
800-2:14
1600-4:41
3200-10:31
3 mile cross country-15:56
I'm aware that these are far from from great times but I'm hoping to improve to
400-56
800-2:05
1600-4:28
3200-9:50
As you can probably tell the 1600 m is probably my main event and I'm not great at distances 3200 m+ but I wouldn't say I have much speed either. The 1600 m is probably the only distance I'm relatively good at. I also majorly burned out during my cross country season. My PR of 15:56 was my first race of the season after what I would consider a pretty high mileage summer (45-55 mpw) after previously doing 30-40 mpw in prior summers. I wasn't doing many intense workouts over the summer but I still burned out so it's possible that my body just can't handle high mileage. This would probably be a problem in a college program. I also don't know if these times would be good enough for me to make a D1 team.
I'm an engineering major too which is pretty intensive and I just don't know if I would have the energy to devote myself to running as well as my studies. What should I do?!? All and any suggestions are welcome.
