Do yourself a favor and go see "American Sniper". Truly a great movie about an American hero, Chris Kyle. Fair warning, not for the faint of heart.

Agree - great movie. Kyle was definitely an American hero - can't imagine facing some of the situations he found himself in.
Didn't some kid shoot him back home at a shooting range?
My brother told me every time a unit came back from war someone would die drunk driving. I guess more soldiers died from DD than combat from Iraq. Crazy how you go to war, come home and something like that happens.
I will gladly go see this movie in theaters and pay full ticket price. I'm happy to support Clint Eastwood and movies about American greatness. Vote with your wallets if you want hollywood to make pro-american movies instead of their usual garbage.
US Army OSS created the considerate, sensitive, gentlemanly, commando persona that today dominates the best commando forces in the world of the USA's CIA, NYPD, SOCOM, DHS, Delta Forces, and so forth.

Not sure about the hero part, but Chris Kyle was without a doubt a great American liar.

Chris Kyle was a pathological liar -- it's been well documented.
Some crazy guy kicked the shit out of the real 'American Sniper' beating him to death. He's buried six feet under. So much for being a tough guy with a gun.
These type of movies are pure CHEESEFESTS. They are no good except to go pound our chests and tell ourselves how wonderful and great we are. These cheesy movies make me want to throw up. If you want to go watch this trash, be my guest. Don't forget your tear wipers and your best friend so you can yap about what a wonderful "hero" this sniper was and how he killed so many bad guys and how he defended us good guys from the horrible, horrible boogie man. Pure propaganda BS and favorites of those that claim to love America but refuse to pay their taxes to take care of her. Get the fvck out of here....
Okay, so besides all the political psycho crap above, who else enjoyed the movie for reasons that weren't driven by some political agenda?
I liked it. Very engaging.
very predictable, nothing new. Just another military type flick...I was frankly quite disappointed...and it is kinda cheesy like some have mentioned.
It would have been more moving if the sniper role was played by "Joey", Matt LeBlanc .

Sad that you have allowed whatever mind God granted you to deteriorate to the point of seeing the world through such parochial eyes.
Best War Movie is Full Metal Jacket. Go rent it kids.
What makes Kyle great? That he killed large numbers of people? Who did he even kill? No one knows all his victims and how many were innocent. He has also been caught in numerous lies, so who knows what the real numbers are. Basically hes a mass murderer and he got what was coming.
Look at the fools on this thread slamming each other. That's the extent of our toughness these days..write crap on social media and drone people from above. Woo hoo.

Hopefully it's better than the disappointing "Unbroken".

It's not. They are both drawn out snooze-fests. You may consider these good stories, but as movies they are boring, unentertaining, and uninspiring.
An actual review of the movie....
First off I'm in the military, but I'm not in a combat mos nor have I deployed so I guess that makes me a pog...whatever....
The movie is based on the book. Any over the top cheese can be blamed on the book which was part truth part overexaggeration and part hype to sell the book. That's just how it is with these autobiographical books that have anything to do with the war. Your #1 job is to sell the book. Facts come in a distant 2nd.
Ok, so this guy had the enemy call him the "devil of ramada" because he was deadly with the sniper rifle. That Is a fact. If I'm the commander of the battle space I make sure his kill count gets out there and gets multiplied. If the enemy is thinking of one guy then they forget about the soldiers he's overwatching.
Anyway. ...Bradley Cooper had the performance of his career. He nailed it. You couldn't tell it was him. I didn't think he had the acting chops to pull off such a serious character and he never dropped the accent. I say see it for his acting and the sniper shots.

Seriously?
I have used a sling shot, and I am proud to say I have killed or injured plenty of crows in this world. That's right, crow!!!
Care to match that?
I hit a moving target out of the sky!
I don't mean to brag, but come on, this is what it's all really about, right?
Am I right? You know I'm right, right?
It was good, not great. To compare to other movies I've seen recently, it was on par with Unbroken, but not as good as Interstellar. Too many cheesy clichés. Moving, nonetheless.
