I've been having soreness on the top of my foot ever since last saturday when I had an XC race and may have tied my flats too tight. It doesn't hurt to run but goes from barely noticeable in the morning to noticeably sort-of-sore after a morning run to sore after an afternoon run. I'm more sore on mileage days vs. workout days when i run once. I have added a 'workout day' to three a week since the season officially started but have also dropped my mileage from 70 to 62 to compensate. Is this a problem? Will it go away? It's on the bone, I think, but have had a stress fracture before and this definitely doesn't 'hurt'- it's just sort of to pretty sore.
I have a race this week that I'm focusing on so I won't take time off before then and ideally won't at all. Just wondering if anybody has had similar symptoms and what their results were. The location is like an inch or two from the junction of my ankle and foot. It's on the high point of my foot before it starts sloping down. If I press on the area it hurts in a small-ish location but it takes a while for me to find the spot.
Is this from tying my shoes too tight or is it a bigger issue? I have a really good base so if it was overuse it would only be from changing my hard long run to a 3 mi race.
Thanks
