Anyone have tips for someplace to get in a 7-8 mile run, preferably off road or on lightly traveled roads?

Haven't been to Traverse City myself, but have been in that area of Michigan, there might be a North Country Trail in that area and it might be good. http://northcountrytrail.org/trail/maps/
I live in the area and have a number of outstanding 7-8 mile runs I can pass along. Depending upon where you are staying, I can give you some options. Let me know. Here is a start : east of town approx. 5 miles is the Vasa Trail. There is a 27 k loop, 11 k loop, and a 5 k loop. It is all soft surface, wooded , and rolling all the way. Trail is very well marked.
In town there are the trails near and around the State Hospital grounds . This system is a hidden gem. I do up to two hour long runs in there as there are many connector trails even though the main perimeter is about 3 miles.
West/ northwest of town are some of the best trails I have ever run on. Yup, I'm biased but there is a reason so many college and high school teams visit this area at this time of year to train. In the glen arbor/ empire area the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is the spot. Contact me if you want more detailed info. Enjoy.
Thanks for the tips. I ran on the Vasa trails on Sunday. It went great!
Glad to help!
