Hey LR, I am a runner who has also been coaching at my alma matter for the past 2 years. I am beginning to see some big improvements in my athletes' times. 2 of my athletes in particular are starting to drop considerable time, and are extremely interested in the sport.
My first is a strong 14 year old who is 5'10 and about 150lbs. When I started with him in 2012 he was running 2:45 in the 800. Recently he has hit 2:20 and 2:15 in the last week.
My second is a small 14 year old of about 5'2 and 110lbs soaking wet. He was a 5:52 1500 guy in 2012 and has recently run 5:04. Now that their track season has ended, I am doing my best to build their long term plan. I am trying to balance solid training blocks throughout cross country and track with important rest periods. Because they are so different from each other but both so young and talented, I am very hesitant to make a bad mistake with either one of them...any pointers?
