As a kid growing up I had a friend named Lebron. We use to play basketball at the local playground. We would play all the usual games, horse, 21and local pick up games. Back then we were about the same size and had similar skills. We also played on park and rec teams and the elementary intramural squad. We were best buds and fantasized about playing in the NBA like Bird and Magic. Then came High School.
Went to the same High School and planned to make History on the Varsity basketball team. However, nature and genetics changed our destinies. Lebron had a freakish growth spurt and I stayed at 5 ft 10. He made Varsity and took the team to the State title and got a scholarship. I made the team but sat on the bench. No matter how much time I spent in the gym working out and working on my skills I would never keep up with my friend Lebron, who went on to be one of the greats. I went on the be one of the best point guards in the local city men's club league and still love the game.
Moral of the story, sure the universe blesses some with godlike talent while the rest of us work our buts off to just achieve personal bests, even if those results are less than godlike. It starts with the love of the sport even for blessed with more talent. So, strive on..........
