With Hagos Gebrhiwet running the 10,000m this week, this likely ensures that Galen cannot medal, as Gebrhiwet is capable of 26:45 currently, and even if he only runs 27:00 or so, it pretty much guarantees he'd represent Ethiopia at 10,000m in Moscow, which means he and Mo Farah will both be ahead of Galen.
Gebrhiwet's event is the 10,000m, as we've seen him outkicked by Gebremeskel and Alamirew in fast 5000m races. Gebrhiwet has superior endurance and tremendous tenacity.
As for Gebremeskel, although he has not appeared fit recently, he too can run close to 27 now, and if he makes Ethiopia's 10,000m team, he will defeat Galen as well in Moscow.
Ethiopia's top runners did not contest the 10,000m in London, and this gave Galen an opportunity to grab a medal, of which he took full advantage. That opportunity appears to be gone now.
