Hansons have had a pretty good recruiting year with Neely Spence and Jake Riley but adding 27:24 Bobby Curtis is a whole new level.
Did Brooks step up with more $$ this year or what is the recent influx of talent?

Interesting choice for both. More established athlete than Hanson's usually add. Slightly more marathon focused group than Bobby has been around. Could be a good fit for both of them.
As a fellow Wildcat I hope it works out well for him. I'd expect that means we see his full debut within a year. The question is will he be ready by fall or will they want to wait until spring '14

A lot of companies are scaling down their sponsorships and dropping people who are still improving. In that kind of an environment the best place to be is a training group backed by a single company.

He already ran the New york City Marathon back in 2011 with a time of 2:16
You're right. My bad. I forgot about that.
I still wonder what's on the horizon and a longer focus won't surprise me.
Very smart move. They offer 100k a year if one of their athletes can run sub 28 for 10k.
David Monti just tweeted that Kim Smith has also been dropped by Reebok. Amazing how some athletes can hold on to contracts no matter how far past it they are while people like Curtis & Smith are let go
Are you sure about that? 100K for under 28 flat?
I would think that is a rumor..Curtis has run 27:20's already
Maybe with the added salary of working in the store? I also call BS on 100k for sub 28 though.

It's definitely not something that they advertise. But the club record is only 28:08 and before 2012 it was 28:32 so it may have been a carrot that they dangled in the past.
combined payout in bonus from Brooks, Hansons and 'income'. This has been discussed before. Not a one lump payout
I have seen the structure of the Hansons contracts and you can make a lot of money if you are at the top level. It is quite obtainable for a guy like Bobby Curtis to make 150 to 200k this year if he runs fast times and places well at USA championships, if he would make the world team he would def be guranteed around that much with base salary.
For sports apparel companies it is really about wearing USA on your chest and their shoes on your feet or the potential to do so. It's not about providing an opportunity to pursue your dream, it is about making it happen and if it doesn't happen...it's game over. This is not unique to T&F, it plays out the same way in every sport.
Why are Brooks-Hansons adding athletes when all other companies are cleaning house?
No BS. Hansons have a policy that if you run certain times, (sub 2:10 or sub 2:11 I forget, sub 28 10k) or make an Olympic team you get paid 100k a year.
The policy, as it's been stated many times, is that Hansons GUARANTEES 100k a year to sub-28 10k/sub2:10 (or 2:11, I forget too) runners in their program.
In other words, if Curtis ran under 28 for 10k and made 35k from prize money that year, 25k from appearance money, 8k in the Hansons store, and 12k on assorted performances bonuses/whatever, Hansons would make up the difference between that amount (70k) and 100k.
So no, he doesn't just get a big ol check for 100k if he runs sub28 in a Hansons uniform.
That bonus is gone, they have signed a new deal with Brooks, the sub 28 is no longer a 100k guarantee, however, he will be paid very well.
Training-wise this seems like a terrible fit, but he should enjoy the money. Don't expect to hear anything good from him again though.
