Coaches NewsN, this time there is a moral obligation to point the elephant in the room before you get out of hand with your coaching recommendations
Some time ago you were pulling for a coach that never had an NCAA All American in distance events at Kent. The ones before him had plenty! What gets weirder is that you are rooting for this type of coaches to get the head coaching position at Ohio State and other major programs. What a nice friend you are, lobbying for them over here. And you are not the only one going crazy here over coaches that did really nothing above what is considered less than average
But let me tell you this: Best MAC team right now ain`t ranked inside top 100 in the Nation. And, there are over a dozen others that are producing year in and year out / NCAA Qualifiers, NCAA All Americans and Top 50 NCAA finishes
For example, Kent State distance crew is Naia, D2 mid-level as we speak and it has been since 2005 when Mcraven and Hunt left. Reality can be harsh sometimes but necessary! Akron is not that different, but recently their new men coach had superior level of success for the MAC and produced NCAA top runners. Toledo is doing much better at the NCAA level.
However, all MAC programs are underperforming for the past years when compared to similar resources Schools and Conferences. By just browsing the latest NCAA outdoor rankings you see programs as Southern Illinois, Illinois State, Lousiana Tech, Wichita State,UNLV, South Dakota, Middle Tennessee, Indiana State, Eastern Illinois, Montana State, Webber State, Murray State, UNI, Vermont, Umes, and Others. Programs that are ranked ahead best MAC schools and have been for the past years. Programs with inferior facilities than the ones of the MAC “powerhouses” and less than 6 full time coaches on staff. Some of them not fully funded
Lets speak about the kind of coaches that had decent results, and had coached teams to National Rankings, with multiple All Americans. Let`s do that before bringing our buddies into the conversation
