What can he run at his best?
What can he run at his best?
Perhaps a 49 back in his 800-miler days
Hall would ride a bike around a track in 43.9 seconds. Then he would round it down to 43 seconds and claim he set the American record.
currently... probably around 51-52. I will say 51.6
Normally I think people put estimates way too high on these threads (ie people that think Bekele or Lagat couldn't break 49). However, I highly doubt Hall could break 53 out of blocks right now. I'd put him at 53 mid. He has been training for the marathon so long.
I feel like there's going to be a divide, with one side saying around 47 seconds and the other saying 54 seconds.
I doubt anybody is going to say 47 seconds. At his best, he was probably right around 51 mid... look at the way his arms move when he runs... he's found a way to make that efficient, but there are good reasons why there are no sprinters in the world who run like that.
Uh hello this man is a 2:04 marathoner! I've seen girls run 52, and not good ones either. He'd come in at 46 mid, and he'd be givin' out high fives on the straightaway too.
i was running 52's in my sleep when i was a sophmore and couldn't crack the varsity squad. when Hall was in 4:02 shape in HS he could easily run a 48.
Hall, could drop a sub-48, no doubt.
Assuming the course was downhill with a tailwind, of course.

Those are some slow girls you are talking about! I've got two sisters who run 47 and 48 and I'm always getting on their cases about how damned slow they are.
I say Hall could do 42 high. At least!

Really?!?!?! Is that really how you FEEL??? Are you sure that isn't how you think or believe? Ugh!!!
speaking of dropping distance, when is Hall going to run a track 10,000m (or 5,000m) and clean house?
Why do you think that? Usually the discussion is about a distance runner. They are distance runners and not mid-distance runners for a reason. Any impressive speed you see from them is usually a product of great strength and endurance. Just because they may run a 54 or 53 at the end of a 5 or 10K doesn't mean they can run a 48 second 400M fresh. The same question was asked concerning Solinsky in a thread a few months ago. People said he could run at least a 48 second 400M if not lower. Why? Because he is Chris effing Solinsky that was why. The evidence is sorely lacking. If Kiprop can apparently run just a 48M, no way can Solinsky run a 48. Nor Rupp. Even if Kiprop did it on a slow track.

Generally, people believe distance runners have far greater basic speed than they actually do. If either of the above can break 49 for an open 400, they can do so by the skin of their teeth (48.98, etc.).
49 open

probably his marathon pace per 400 minus one second

Yeah, that is how I feel. I also feel like you probably don't get along with people very well. Forgive me for using a bit of informal speech on a message board, in a post that was already in jest, sir.
great story and all. wrote:

Rubbish
the dude is a marathoner. i think he'd be hard pressed to break 57 now.
