Three cheers for the 25-29 year old Africans keeping the 18-23 year old white guys out of the top 3. You rock!!
I for one am appalled that the Africans not only trained hard and ran faster than everyone else, but that they came to the US to get an education in the meantime.
Maybe the white guys can have some bionic legs like the South African dude to help them keep up.
Despite being 26 Sammy has only been running 5 years, whereas someone like Derrick has been running since middle school. I find that the group of people who complain about Africans winning titles are not concerned with the state of distance running in America, older competition, or foreigners in the NCAA. This group is simply suffering from prejudiced beliefs. For instance, whenever an African wins an NCAA title this group goes off with jeremiads. Yet where were they when these foreigners won NCAA titles:
Anne Kesselring
Shelia Reid
Matt Hughes
Alexander Ziegler
Not to mention the Aussie in the steeple, and of course the kiwi Lucy Van Dalen
You can't tell these people aren't Americans because they are white. Whereas it is obvious who is African. Laslty, in proportion to Americans Africans have not won very many titles. If you do research you will see that there have been turns in domination of distance running--remember Japan?
Best of luck at the World Swimming Championships. Oh, wait...
He's 26!? So who pays for his college cause my parents would certainly kick me to the curb if I was an able-bodied, almost 30 yr old, still meddling around with teenagers.

Coming to the U.S. is one thing, but I have to agree about the age thing- a 26 y.o. competing is a bit ridiculous. NCAA DI should cap the age at 24 barring med reasons. 25 at absolute max. Tough to fault Sammy, though, for being forthcoming about his actual age instead of just saying he was born Jan. 1st of whatever year was most convenient...

Doesn't he get a full-ride scholarship?

Post of the year. Who gives a shit how old they are? No one cries about 25 year old mormons.
What do you do when you can't make your Kenyan high school's cross country team? You dominate the NCAA.
I love Sam Chalenga but I love all of our runners, regardless of race...what's up with all the hate whitey on this thread? Who cares what color anyone is? I don't give faaack. Bottom line is some folks just aren't putting out the work and effort required to run fast, those who do reap the rewards.
yeah! right on! can I hold a sign next to you and jump up and down too? yeah, they should have told weinke that too when baseball didn't work out for him. who'd he "steal" the heisman from anyway? whaaaaah, that's not fair daddy, whaaah!...............crybabies. as my fave rapper said, N***a please!

Are you being sarcastic?
i dont understand what the problem is.
running has nothing to do with age. it has to do with how long and how well you've been training. Chelanga has been running much less than most of the guys that he is running against and beating. That is everyone elses fault for not training enough, not Chelanga's. To make it worse, Chelanga was spending his time playing PING PONG not soccer or basketball lol.
But even if Chelanga had been training for his entire life, what would you have the NCAA do? Start organizing the athletes by how much training they've done? That's retarded.
Ummm...yes they do. wrote:
