Only a 1:51? I don't know where the f*** you're from, but a 1:51 is cruising, especially in high school.
hes only a sophomore (true sophomore i believe) so hes dropped 6 seconds in 2 years. only ran 1:48 coming into nationals too
A lot of kids dont train at a level they should be in high school. Many kids come into college without a solid base for 800 training. It's impressive, but to say he only ran 1:51 in high school is pretty ridiculous.
let's make it easy for you: Greer ran 1:47 as a junior in high school. Brown has improved in a hurry. Who has the better future, just based off of that improvement history?

Greer . . . but Brown is worth keeping an eye on.
Hmmm...So Brown now owns a PR that's one second faster than Greer's - and he's improving by leaps and bounds. And Greer has the brighter future? Not sure about that.
Greer ran a 1:45.98 at Western Regionals.
For Coach Labadie (distance coach at Akron),It is simple, akron sucks. If Willie doesn't get into the fastest heat by far and have someone to leech off of the entire way, he never runs that fast and he is sitting in stands for rest of weekend. At which point, he can remain focused on beating Kent State at the dual meet.

What are you talking about? There are plenty of very fast 800m runners who go to smaller mid-majors and run fast times. Just because you go to UAkron does not mean the competition level prevents you from running 1:45s. He has the same opportunity to run at fast invitationals like Penn/Drake Relays/Duke/Florida,etc...as any other runners at other NCAA institutions.
Would you Batty of BYU should just worry about winning at the "dual meet" that is the Mountain West Conference for track and field? NO, he still runs blazing. How about van Ingen of Binghamton?

Being from the greater Cleveland area, I would safely guess he did not have proper training in High School. John Adams high school is not Glenville, and I woudl view Brown as a guy with huge potential, which Akron is starting to develop.
I agree. I don't know the J. Adams coaches, but I did see Willie Brown run at the Lakewood District, Amherst Regional, and then State. It was pretty clear a lot of his racing was done on such raw talent, sort of "pushing through" his races to the finish line, rather than "racing" his competitors. It looks like Akron has done a real good job of developing this natural guts and potential into a nice diamond in the rough.
