Paula ran 65.40 at the 2003 Great North Run and whilst this is not an official record course because of a marginal overall drop, anyone who's run it will tell you its a harder course than a lot of flat races.
I apologyze if I was not able to understand that was a sarcastic joke, English is not my language.
However, I could not be surprised if it was a real thought, looking at how many times Letsun posters speak about doping for all the athletes able running fast (sometimes not very much, but fast in their mind).
In any case, I gave the true infos about the situation of Mary, because it's good people can know who is the coach, the organisation she has for her, her projects.
In Letsrun there are a lot of people speaking about HOW an athlete is, WHAT she has to do, WHICH is the best programs, WHICH results she can have in the future, without never having seen the athlete before.
Of course, everybody has the right to give his opinion. But this behavior is very similar to the discussions we have in Italy about our football (soccer), for all the week, in every bar and in television, where every fan knows better than the coach of the team what he has to do, choosing different players (he works with them every way, fans never saw any training sessions, but they know...), changing training system (of course, they professionally know the training systems better than the coach), and supposing what was possible to do IF.....
One thing is to joke, other thing is to try to speak seriously. And, if there is somebody seeming to be serious when joking, unfortunately there are a lot really joking or writing stupid things when want to be serious.

Honestly, it sounded like the typical letsrun rant by some jealous anonymous loser. Give Renato a break. By the way, great post- I guess if something good can come from that "sarcasm" it was your response which was very informative.

there is nothing "minor" about it
it has an overall drop of 30.5m :
http://www.arrs.net/HP_GNhHM.htma rough estimate for that 65'40 on a flat course is
~ 66'01
I agree with ventolin- she should light it up on the track for a few seasons. To start hacking away at 2:17, much less 2:15 at her age is crazy. She needs to hit ~64:30 fitness, a ways off yet!
QoTD material right here:
"If some coach or some athlete in our group only ASKS for something like this, WE KICK HIM IN HIS ASS AND CANCEL IMMEDIATELY ANY OPPORTUNITY OF WORKING WITH HIM OR HER."
Love it, and hope it is true!

People keep saying that it's a marginal overall drop, but there seem to be a lot of runners (Paula and Kara Goucher being two that spring to mind), that never run within 30 seconds of their best Great North Run time on a record legal course.

On the WMA calculator, 1:05:50 grades to exactly 100% for a 29 year old.
The marathon mark that yields the same 100%: 2:15:25
Not that I would agree with that myself, as a quality equivalence.
Age grade is based on WR so no surprise. That still doesn't mean they're equivalent performances.
Still, awesome performance by Mary.
However, if she wants to run 2:15, she must run her HMx2 + 3:30min.
If the men were to do this, they'd have to run a full in 2 hours flat. Think about it.

So if a course climbed 200 metres but dropped 230.5 metres then it's faster than a flat course?
Of course we just look at one data point and extrapolate from that...
Ventolin you are such a tool it's unbelievable. Please oh please don't post anymore.
Renato, thanks for the fascinating insight.
It is a real privilege when we get some genuine inside information, or a behind-the-scenes story following a great performance like this.
Don't be offended by the nonsense you sometimes (often?) see on these boards.
There are a lot of people, some who may not post very often, but are really appreciative of this kind of input.
Keep it coming.
Renato,
Thanks for the amazing insight. A very informative and thorough post. Very good read. Thanks

I second this. Though the sarcastic and funny posts are entertaining (not the stupid accusations), what makes this board is getting the real experts and pros like Coach Canova chiming in from time to time.
Renato,
Thanks for the response. Most of us appreciate what you have to say.
"So, when I see stupid posts from stupid people speaking in bad way about something they don't know, I ALWAYS GO TO DEFEND WHO IS DEFAMED WITHOUT ANY REASON AND ANY KNOWLEDGE, because one of the worst behavior in the World is to speak BEHIND somebody that you don't know, creating a "MUD'S MACHINE" that is the most disgusting way to speak about any situation."

DONE!
If Mary Keitany is running London Marathon it not feasible to run the marathon at this years World Championships; therefore, Mary only choice is the 10000m if she wants to go to Worlds. You go girl and crank out that sub 30 minute 10000m.
McMillian says she should be capable of 29:34 which seems too fast for Mary. With some 10000m training I think she could/would push the pace for around 29:50-29:58 and medal.

You don't need a sub30 to medal at the WC. And I doubt it will happen. In a non-championship race I am pretty sure she could do it. And there is hope she erases Wang Junxia's record one day.
I can easily see this record lasting until Jordan Hasay goes pro and moves up in distance.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
