As is to clearly depicted in the Quote of the Day space, 2 other Americans have also been under 13 min prior to 7 days ago, but the headline says Kennedy was the only one? got racism?

This site thrives on the quantity of its coverage, not the quality. If you counted all the typos and just blatantly wrong information that gets posted as LRC material it's ridiculous.
Lagat was not an American when he ran under 13:00.

when he ran 12:59 in 2006, he absolutely was.

Lol yes he was. He's run under 13 twice.
Are you sure it didn't say "American-born"? Because I've heard that thrown around often as if that's to save us from racism.

7 days ago, Bob Kennedy was the only American to ever crack 13:00.
that's the quote. Also, super cool that they started a sentence w/ a number. who writes this shit?
How hypocritical, not to consider a relatively new citizen an american......
whoever wrote that is garbage and should apologize
I completely agree with most of these posts. Lagat IS an American, just as american as any of us that were born here. He moved here in college and went through everything necessary to become a citizen. I'm very glad to say that there are now 4 Americans that have broken 13 minutes for the 5k. What the Johnson brothers should have posted was that since Bob Kennedy, the first 2 American-born athletes have broken 13 minutes.
Americans are right back on the world scene and I think that Lagat has been a huge boost for all the other pro runners with the success he's had while wearing the USA jersey (I will say that the main spark to American distance running recently would probably be Meb and Deena in the Athens marathon).
Congratulations to Matt Tegenkamp for his run today. Teg is my favorite runner so it was really an exciting thing for me to see personally. Such a great week for the US in the distance with 2 of our men going sub 13, and I hope to see Jager, Rupp, and Solinsky get there too, and mhopefully some others, all in the near future.
Lagat is as American as I am.
Hi guys,
the headline you are all talking about was wrong. I messed it up last night. My crack editing staff (aka me) missed the obvious error. Thanks for pointing it out. I've corrected it, but left the original mistake to further my deep shame. As for your other assertions that I or we are racists and poor writers... they will be ignored.

Proof: here he is, in one of the quintessentially American paintings in our history. On the right:
