Don't know when he will be eligible though. Wonder if Auburn gave him a release.

He is on the OSU roster on their web site. If so, this could be the piece that takes them to the NCAA title, maybe that is why Vail came back.
How does Vail still have eligibility? He's run four XC seasons already and redshirted once. How is he not done?
I heard a man has walked on the moon.
...he's been at okie state for 5 years, ran xc for 4, only ran at championship races for 3 of those 5 years. Me taking the best educated guess I can muster, would say vail was hurt on the year he didn't run any championship races, and "hello, medical redshirt"
It's obviious Dave Smith is an awesome recruiter, I'd like to know how he does it! but he has failed to prove himself as a coach in 'almost' every way. He is a youngin though (age 4x years old), we'll see with time.

I'm biting my tongue so hard right now.
He recruits well because you bite your tongue?
Dont bite your tongue, something is obviously fishy about vail running again for 6th year, something is fishy about girma running there as well.
No way Auburn would release him unless some money went straight into the lap of the coach there. He was their pride and glory at Auburn
I feel sorry for Dave Smith. He could win a National Championship and 100 percent of the coaching fraternity would still have zero respect for him.
thinking the same thing...
but he has what all them fraternity members want... great athletes great facilities and and he is younger than 90% of the fraternity....
Dave did nothing wrong in the recruiting of Girma.
Auburn had no problem releasing Girma, in fact after Girma made the decision to transfer to Arizona then decided it wasn't the place for him he called Auburn to see if he could come back and they told no. That is a fact.
Dave Smith then got the call from Girma and he welcomed him to the team. Girma is an interesting character and can wear out his welcome places pretty quickly. A huge talent but not a great team mate

So good job Smithy !
Just like Caster Semenya, right?
Reading his bio is interesting, I did not realize he ran Foot Locker or that he (evidently) went to high school here in the US. Where did he go to high school? How long has his family been in the US? Is he a citizen yet?
Georgia I believe. I was thinking he was an exchange student.
I coached Girma for three weeks of a spring track season (before he hit the big time) at Berkmar High School in Lilburn, GA. He arrived in early March with refugee status as he had lived in Kenya for much of his life after leaving Ethiopia also as a refugee. He attended school in Kenya until he was able to move here and live with his brother. It took six weeks to get him eligible in Georgia as a hardship case. He was only able to train for three weeks and ran only two races that year (region and state...he finished 3rd behind Ben Hubers (IN) and Jay Heller (used to run for TX). He was obviously a HUGE natural talent but was quite a bit out of shape due to all the moving and getting used to being in an American school.
I transferred to another school and he was able to train over the summer. He went to Footlocker and destroyed the GA state meet record with a 15:01 on a tough course. You know the rest of the story.
"He was their pride and glory at Auburn"
hahaha you so funny! you jokkin' right??

Oh no, you're way off if you think anything against the rules is going on. Some people are just smooth talkers.

It's called a medical redshirt. It's not particularly common, but it happens. CU used it on one of their runners two years ago. Nothing funny. Runners get injured.
