I watched that documentary a few weeks ago. I couldn't disagree and be more offended by your comment about the back of the packers working harder than everyone else, even the elites, to do what they're doing because they're not "genetically predisposed" to run that far. You might want to reconsider that statement or do some research on the training of elites. I'd say running 60+ miles more per week than first timers, spending hours a day doing drills, lifting, and crosstraining beats someone who runs a max of 40 miles/week and rewards him/her self with a frappuchino for doing so. Also, they're not "not genetically predisposed", most are just too fat to be doing what they're trying to do. One group is training to beat 10's of thousands of other runners or place in their age group, the other group is training to complete the distance. Which group do you think works harder?
that's the kind of comment I love to see. Thank you.
Haven't seen it but I agree if this is really what it says. Elites work their ass off, it is their JOB. Most people can finish a marathon if they train a bit.
I admire anyone who decides to attempt a marathon but to say that the back of the pack runners work harder than elites is laughable. It shows a complete lack of respect for elite runners and the work that goes into running at that level.
