1 and 2 both look tough.
Heat 3 looks to be the place to be.
Hopefully KD or Symmonds will make the final.
Heat 2 looks like a final. Top two plus two fastest? That means even if it's fast KD has to beat three guys out of Kamel, Kiprop, Ismail, Borza, Mulaudzi, and Yego.
I saw the lineup and thought the same thing
they need to go back to 4 rounds.
You realize that rule 166.4b says that they seed the semis based on the original performance list (plus any updates achieved in the previous rounds)?
That means the seeding is done based on what fitness they currently are in, as determined by their 2009 season performances, not their lifetime best.
Look at the distribution, three guys in each semi have run 1:43, two guys in each semi have run 1:44, two guys in semis one and two have run 1:45 (only one in semi three), two guys in semi three have run 1:46 (one in each of semi one and two).
Based on 2009, the semis are very evenly matched.
Watching the Worlds I think the semi's are the new finals. Look at the semi's in almost any race- they could be a final and very often only the top 2 get auto's.
Prize money should go to the top 8 in each semi, then the top 8 again in the finals.
In races with no semi's- 10,000, marathon- top 16 get money.
Kszczot will beat everyone
can symmonds beat kaki?

I expect him to have a good showing.

My thoughts exactly.
The 800 is such a wide-open event right now that there will inevitably be potential winners who don't make it out of the semis.
can symmonds beat kaki? NO
ummmmm ever heard of rashid ramzi?
Lets go Gary Reed!
15 men in the semifinals, whose lifetime PB is 1:43.89 or faster. Trying to get into the first 2 in each semi. will be crazy. And the 2 qualifiers by time could well be decided by hundredths. It's a combination of skill and luck, in this event, to make the final.
What a crash in heat 1! kaki out!

Apparently he can if Kaki trips himself.

I'd rather say stupid Dutchman!
Kiprop = Jelimo?!
Ismail DNF as well! Stepped off the track after the first lap. The announcers completely missed that somehow.
Ok North American dudes Nick & Gary, nows your best shot I'd say. Weak middle distance year, Kaki and Kiprop are out, give it hell.
