as my crim procedure prof says, "a grand jury will indict a ham sandwich."
Who was your criminal professor? Mine said that also. Don Dripps at the U of Illinois in 1989. Maybe it is a common expression.
It's very common. I don't recall who originally said it.
In this case, the significance to me is that the DoJ has chosen to move forward with the case against Bonds.
I clipped this -- may or may not be right. I thought it was Clarence Darrow, but apparently not.
This has become a legal catch phrase, but appears to have been originated in 1985 by Sol Wachtler, at that time Chief Judge of the New York State Court of Appeals (highest level court in the New York State court system)
I don't know much about law, but when Michael Vick was indicted, the common refrain was that federal grand juries don't indict without a very, very high probability of conviction.

My guess is that Greg Anderson, the trainer for Bonds, finally got sick of sitting in prison for Barry and flipped for the State. It was a matter of time.
I also noticed that the feds haven't brought a tax evasion charge. My guess is that they're holding that one back as incentive for Bonds to seek a plea. That's what they did with Vick.

i dont think they would have sought an indictment if they did not have the goods on him. the conventional wisdom is that the best plea deal you will usually get in the federal system is early in the process, so you may be right about holding back some tax issues.
from what i have read, i doubt greg anderson flipped. i think they had to release him now.
he is charged with similar things to what martha stewart was charged with - obstruction.
which raises the question, "who does more time, OJ or barry?
I have nothings to worry about, no?
Do you think the clear could help Teg run a 10k faster?
possibly, but I bet the HGH would make him a pretty good shotputter.
i think the clear could help anyone run any distance faster.
Ditto HGH
I wonder if they got hold of the tests he did through balco that were used in order to determine if the masking they were doing was working. It is described in the book about balco that the athletes did many drug tests under the request of Conte. If some of these tests were obtained by the feds, and they show Barry testing positive for anabolic steriods, then he is screwed.
arod is next.....how can anyone look at him and think he is clean??

Not necessarily. I believe the indictment is not for having used 'roids, but for having lied about *knowingly* using them.

I think that's the point. If he had tests showing a positive, then he had to know he took roids. He lied about that. Bad Barry.
So where are all the Bonds lovers now? I'm sure you'll trot out the old "innocent until proven guilty" line which is good in theory. Ask Michael Vick and his attorneys what that was worth!
