Sometimes the marathon field at worlds is watered down but certianly not this year as the Duba, London and Boston champs are all racing.

It was defending champ Desisa who really broke the race open just after 25K and made it a two-man duel between he and Berhanu. But in the end, Berhanu was way better as he crushed Desisa over the final mile to win in 2:12:45 to Desisa's 2:13:32. Yemane Tsegay made it an Ethiopian sweep as he held off former champ Wesley Korir for 3rd.

With six guys who have run under 2:05 (more than London), this field is impressively deep. Desisa is a slight favorite but '15 runner-up/Worlds silver medallist Yemane Tsegay, '15 3rd placer Wilson Chebet and Chicago runner-up Sammy Kitwara (2:04:28 pb) are among the many guys looking to take him down. What role, if any, will the meldonium ban play?

Who deserved the #1 US ranking took some thought as Ritz beat Meb in Boston and Luke Puskedra had the highest WMM finish of any American (5th) and fastest time of the year as well (2:10:24).
