Lemi Berhanu Hayle and Atsede Baysa return to defend their 2016 titles and are joined by Meb Keflezighi, Wesley Korir, Caroline Rotich and Buzunesh Deba.

Deba's family has reunited with hopes that the 29-year-old can become the race's first winner from Ethiopia since 2013.

Kiplagat will face Buzunesh Deba, Kim Smith and Neely Spence Gracey while the men's side will have a rematch between last year's top-2 in Ben Payne and Scott Overall.

A dramatic come from behind victory for Ethiopia's Atsede Baysa as Neely Spence Gracey was 9th.

Defending champ Caroline Rotich is back, and she'll battle a deep field that is devoid of any studs. Dubai champ Tirfi Tsegaye (LRC World #1 in '14), Amsterdam/Honolulu champ Joyce Chepkirui and Buzunesh Deba (who finished 2nd behind doper Rita Jeptoo in '14) plus several others will look to wrest the crown from Rotich. Neely Spence Gracey (debut) and Sarah Crouch are the lone U.S. pros.

Other top names include Wilson Chebet (59:15), Zane Robertson (59:47), Sam Chelanga and Diego Estrada for the men. Caroline Rotich (68:52), Buzunesh Deba (68:59) and Neely Spence Gracey for the women.

Keitany has been running great since returning from her second pregnancy last year, but she'll have her hands full on Sunday. Aselefech Mergia (Dubai), Caroline Rotich (Boston) and Tigist Tufa (London) have all won major marathons this year, plus the field includes 2013 champ Priscah Jeptoo, two-time runner-up Buzunesh Deba and debutante Sally Kipyego. *MB: 2015 NYC Marathon Women's Race - Who you got in loaded womens' field led by Mary Ketiany?

Caroline Rotich pulled the big upset in Boston as the successful half marathoner outkicked even money favorite Mare Dibaba for the win after American Desi Davila led for much of the race.

2014 Chicago champ Mare Dibaba leads the field, though she'll be challenged by fellow sub-2:20 woman Buzunesh Deba, who would have set a course record last year if not for drug cheat Rita Jeptoo. World junior record holder Shure Demise Ware and former champs Caroline Kilel and Sharon Cherop will also be on the start line.

The deep field also includes Joyce Chepkirui, Buzunesh Deba and Annie Bersagel.

The pro fields for the 2015 Boston Marathon were announced today and previously announced Americans Meb Keflezighi and Shalane Flanagan will have their hands fulls.

Tirfi Tsegaye won two majors and is world #1 in a year marred by doper Rita Jeptoo.

Mary Keitany (2:18:37 pb) may be a Paula Radcliffe type talent, but she'll have her hands full in NYC in her first marathon in two years. She'll be challenged by former double World Champ Edna Kiplagat, and NYC champs Jelena Prokopcuka and Firehiwot Dado, plus 2013 runner-up Buzunesh Deba. Desiree Linden leads the American field, which also includes 41-year-old Deena Kastor (shooting for 2:25) and Kara Goucher, in her first marathon since April 2013. 

 

Defending champ Priscah Jeptoo faces runner up Buzunesh Deba as well as Edna Kiplagat and Mary Keitany in her return to the marathon.

They'll face heavy competition though from 1:06 half-marathoner Lucy Kabuu and Boston Marathon runner-up Buzunesh Deba.
