The top U.S.-based entrants in Sunday's Tokyo Marathon both hail from Jerry Schumacher's Bowerman Track Club. Saina is coming off a fifth-place finish in the Olympic 10,000, while Bumbalough, finally healthy after almost two years of injuries, is hoping to find success at the ultimate distance.

Andrew Bumbalough was the first American in his debut in 1:02:04, Ritz ran 1:02:07, and Meb 1:02:17.

Stephen Sambu faces a field of top Americans, including Meb Keflezighi, Dathan Ritzenhein, Abdi Abdirahman, Matt Tegenkamp and, in their debuts, Chris Solinsky and Andrew Bumbalough.

Nike Oregon Project's Cam Levins had an off day and the rival Bowerman Track Club's Lopez Lomong and Ryan Hill were glad to pick up the slack going 1-2 in the men's 5000m. German Fernandez DNFd as he was having a terrible day and going to get lapped.

Yes, children have been conceived and born in the time it took them, but USATF finally gave Bumbalough back his 8th place 3K finish. They also added a rule that now allows corrections to be made 72-hours after a race.

The Continental Cup brought to an end the 2014 track season and that means we turn our attention to marathoning - Chicago and New York.  Plus a look at $$$ - prize money, appearance fees, Kevin Durant vs. the IAAF and USATF, and Eugene 2019 2018?

Move over, Diamond League finals. The 2nd annual Continental Cup in Marrakech, Morocco is the DL finals on steroids as this two-day meet has $2.9 million in prize money. There should be some great mid-d/distance matchups, including Nijel Amos vs. Mo Aman vs. Adam Kszczot in the 800,  Bernard Lagat vs. Caleb Ndiku in the 3,000 and Jairus Birech vs. Evan Jager in the 3,000 steeple, but we're most excited about the men's 1,500, which one could argue is better than an Olympic final. Plus Duane Solomon will race for the first time in almost two months. 

The two-day meet gets underway Friday and features top fields in the women's 1,500 and men's 5,000 as well as recent US champs Leo Manzano and Ajee' Wilson in the men's 1,500 and women's 800.

Lagat got the job done yet again as expected since Galen Rupp wasn't in the field. Or was he?

Rupp is just 1-19 against Lagat in races they've both finished, but the 39-year-old Lagat has started to show his age outdoors. Rupp beat Lagat to win the Olympic Trials in 2012; can he do it again in Sacramento?
