The 40th revision of Nike's Pegasus is the most popular shoe on LetsRun.com and also the most divisive one. Over a third of reviewers give it a perfect overall score, but over 20% give it failing or near-failing marks. Those who like it praise its comfort, fit, and performance on runs and workouts. Those who dislike it complain that the fit has changed enough from previous revisions that they cannot run in the shoe any longer.

I've been wearing the Pegasus, since it's first edition in 1983. For me it's the ultimate training shoe and even if Nike had never advanced the shoe, it would still be a great trainer. The 40th edition is light enough to do tempo runs, and time trials, but still sturdy enough to do long runs. A great, great shoe
A little heavier and firmer than what I would ideally like. Not as comfortable as the previous version(39). Still
The Pegasus 40 is the Honda Accord of shoes. It does everything well, nothing outstanding, and will give you many trouble free miles. At a time when there are many exciting shoes using crazy stack heights and midsole compounds, the Pegasus doesn’t get the praise it deserves. I like to keep an exciting shoe in the mix to spice up my runs sometimes, but for day-in day-out running at a variety of paces and conditions, the Pegasus just gets it done.
I've been training in Pegasus/Air Zoom Pegasus for decades since the beginning and they're now up to #40. By far best shoe ever made. Perfect combination of cushioning in forefoot/heel, great side to side stability, arch size & support and super comfortable inner liner. But maybe best of all is, this shoe is absolutely perfect in the way it lets the foot "strike, plant, and roll" on every single step exactly the way it should. In perfect harmony with the foot and body
not sure if it’s the shoe or changes in my running, but most runs I get a numb/tingling feeling in my planter fascia Area in my right foot. This is a new development since training in these new shoes.
Most neutral trainers today have switched to forefoot rocker, even traditional favorites like the Nimbus, Cumulus, and Ride (and the pseudo-minimalist Kinvara)! But the Pegasus endures. The Peg 40 is my first Pegasus- in the past I liked the aforementioned trainers from other brands. I don't like forefoot rockers (I know what I'm talking about- I've run hundreds of miles in Hoka Cliftons and newer Saucony Rides- it just feels muted to me) so the Pegasus is the shoe for me.
I used to be afraid of heel-toe drops above 8mm, but I find the 10mm Pegasus is pretty good. Minimalist rhetoric appeals to me, but I find solace in the fact that many very fast people have run a lot of their mileage in the Pegasus or shoes like it.
I like the forefoot air pad. It makes the ride feel much more cushioned. Although it is a little weird because I can distinctly feel the forefoot air pad when I am standing or walking. Also, the heel cushioning is very good. I think I usually mostly midfoot strike, but sometimes when I'm running down a hill slowly I heel strike and these feel fine with that.
React foam is outdated and extremely comfortable. The whole entire geometry of the shoe is just awful. I feel like the minute I go out for a run in it, I'm going to get injured
Very cushioned, poor durability already breaking down <200 miles. Expensive.
I love this shoe. I wear them every time I run now. Last month, I took these shoes with me on a hike in Colorado. Held up then too. Mostly I just use them for running. A bit expensive, but 100% worth it.
Felt great until the cushion lost its responsiveness kinda early, also traction isn't super great in them in bad weather, but if its good weather they work as a faster pace shoe too
Don’t like the feel compared to the 38, would suggest getting the 38 for comfortability, also the upper is weird. Overall i guess its cheap because its easy to find on sale but the toe cushion sucks.
