I’ve run in several iterations of the Mach, but this version (6) is a different shoe from the previous version, which was superior for me. Hoka is doing to this shoe what they did to the Clifton, circa V5, which is messing with a great thing for limited benefit. The added rubber sole, while potentially adding lifespan, detracts from the smoothness, runs louder, and isn’t that great when wet out. They’ve also, apparently, taken out the some of the rocker (early stage ”meta rocker”) in this version which made the turnover so easy in the version 5. It’s still a decent shoe, but it now a easy-day shoe, rather than a tempo or workout shoe.
I use the Hoka Mach 6 for a lot of my daily training, but I prefer a light and fairly basic shoe for most of my runs. I find the cushioning to be a sweet blend of bounce and protection - good for easy days or tempo days on the road. I'm picky about forefoot cushioning and bounce as I'm more of a midfoot runner and the forefoot cushioning on the Mach 6 feels just right. The fit and construction are super solid. I judge a shoe's fit by how snug I need to lace it to get it to conform to my foot. With the Mach 6 I can keep the laces kinda loose and the fit still feels very secure - so no lace pressure. If I had one complaint the last seems a very straight and could be more anatomical in shape but I don't notice that much when running.
Got this shoe as a daily trainer/tempo shoe for my upcoming season and it did not disappoint. Too many people nowadays do workouts in super shoes, so finding a nice reliable up tempo shoe with no carbon plate was a relief.
These are very good for everyday runs. I used to have the Mach 5s and they became my ride or die but Hoka came out with the Mach 6 and discontinued the 5. The 6 is still wonderful but definitely different from the 5s and I don’t love them as much.
Very light and was good for every day plus for temp and speed days and was mostly comfortable
Great lightweight trainer, I like using them for long runs. The bottoms can wear down quickly.
I loved the Mach 5 and even ran a marathon in them! While a lot of folks don’t love the changes to the Mach 6 - I actually think the fit is better and I “settled” into this show far quicker than the Mach 5. They provide just enough cushion for longer efforts with enough pick up to handle paces and some speedwork. So far I have about 120 miles and my experience with the Mach 5 is that they really needed replacing at 250 so we’ll see if the 6 lasts any longer!
I truly love this shoe. Great for normal runs, speed workouts, and long runs. Heck, I have run 11 point for a 100 in these, and 13 miles the next day. They are light yet supportive. The ONLY downside is that they wear out quickly (about 300 miles)
