The Flo Jo case has been mentioned a couple of times, but just to add more, it was apparently because she failed a test during the Seoul Games. After the Ben Johnson fiasco, it was decided it was too much for the women's gold medalist to also fail, and with pressure from the US not to DQ her, it was agreed that they would effectively 'force' her to retire.
Nebiolo chaired the meeting, not Samaranch, the Head of the TAC was present, as was IOC Press Officer Michelle Verdier (who announced Johnson's failed test) and I know this from a friend who is a French coach (so you can guess who had told him about this from those present...)
Other conspiracies/ rumours:
Ashford liked the odd line.
Pam Marshall drank vinegar prior to a dope test (!) and Dianne Williams had to shave her face, her reaction to doping had caused her to get too hairy.
Marlies Gohr's start blocks were interfered with before the 1980 Olympic final by the Soviets. Also, her lane 8 draw was apparently not so random.
Katrin Krabbe was in full training during her ban and intended to return, like Breuer...but fell pregnant. Thomas Springstein, their coach, continued to be pursued behind the scenes - and was eventually convicted of doping minors (one of his athletes was just 17 yrs old) - and he allegedly provided Nils Schumann with the juice as well.
Marie-Jose Perec's departure from Sydney 2000...a number of rumours here. Roger Black, who is married to one of Perec's long-term friends, said it was because she realised she couldn't beat Cathy Freeman.
Other rumours were because she just couldn't handle the pressure from the Australian media (and her partner Maybank had apparently assaulted a press photographer) and also that she was running from drug tests.
Note Wolfgang Meier, her then coach (and the former coach - and husband - of Marita Koch) said at the time he had twice before persuaded her to stay, she was that unstable. He also said he predicted she would have run 48.8 (48.87 to be exact) and would have won the gold. Remember when Koch ran the WR of 47.60 he predicted between 47.55- 47.65, so was pretty good at that game.
Dafne Schippers does not get on with a lot of the Dutch team. Apparently she is lovely one-on-one, but the fame has changed her. Despite doing relay camp together, she and Lieke Klaver do not follow each other on social media, and in training give each other a wide berth. There is footage after the 4x100 DNF in Tokyo where Schippers pushes Van Hunnenstijn, her compatriot, after she goes to console her, and Van Hunnenstijn shrugs Schippers off, so she shoves her. It was a big deal in the Dutch press at the time.
Jodie Williams. Daryl Neita, Huge success and improvements this season. Hmm.
